I'm learning about hashtags and their application in Twitter and abroad. Here's some general info about their use in Twitter:
Twitter's search can find any word whether or not it has a hash tag...but, hashtags are not rendered useless in search.twitter.com, because you can still search for "#" or #hashtags (ie."#seinfeld)
Here's one example:
I used Twitter search to find out what hashtag/s people are using for president's day. I found out that more people are using #presidentsday than #presidents, #quotes, and #day--although some people are using these terms.
Also, I found that the people using less specific terms like #day and #quotes are talking about a wide variety of things, rather than one specific thing (#presidentsday).
